The famous writer, author, dialogue & screenplay writer Sri. Balakumaran sir passed away on 14th May, 2018. He was 71.
Fondly called as “Ezhuthu Siddhar” He was the recipient of Kalaimaamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu for his contribution to Tamil Literature.
He was one of the key figures along with Writer Sujatha, Jayamohan, Jayakanthan, Chandilyan, Anuradha Ramanan, Ramani Chandran who played key role in renaissance of Tamil literature & novels in the 70s & 80s.
His famous novels include Mercury Pookal, Irumbu Kudhiraigal, Agalya, Kai Veesamma Kai veesu etc.
Balakumaran’s contribution to films has largely been in the field of screenplay making and dialogue writing.
Balakumaran is synonyms with Baasha. Balakumaran wrote the dialogues for that film.
Who can forget the iconic “oru dhadava sonna nooru dhadava sonna madri” yes, it was written by Sri. Balakumaran.
No Tamil director has utilized the writing prowess of Sri. Balakumaran like Dir. Shankar. They worked together in Gentleman, Kadhalan, and Jeans.
Interestingly Sri. Balakumaran has also worked as Assistant Director to Sri. K. Balachander in Sindhu Bhairavi, Punnagai Mannan & SundaraSwapangalu (Kannada)
The Tamil literature world will miss the legendary Writer whose demise has left a void.
It is a great loss & I pray at this time of great sorrow, that may Lord gives strength to the bereaved family, friends & fans.
